RSVP for the Mass honoring Sr. Marie Magrie

Sister Marie Theresa Magrie, IHM, was born in Detroit in 1937 and entered religious life as a Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) at age 19. She passed away on November 13, 2025.

A beloved educator, musician, and woman of faith, Sister Marie Theresa devoted her life to serving others through ministry, music, and compassion. Before coming to volunteer at Trinity Health Oakland, she spent decades in Catholic education, serving at several grade schools and later at Immaculate Heart of Mary High School in Westchester, Illinois; Brother Rice and Marian High Schools in Bloomfield Hills; and Marygrove College. She was a gifted teacher of music and choral performance, inspiring generations of students and leading countless musical and theatrical productions. Cherished by her students, she was known not only for her talents as an educator but also for the lasting relationships she built throughout her life.

From 2017 to 2022, Sister Marie Theresa served as a volunteer at Trinity Health Oakland, contributing more than 2,000 hours of service. Affectionately known as the "Singing Nun," she brought joy, comfort, and spiritual support to patients, families, colleagues, and visitors. She played piano for daily Mass in the hospital chapel, visited colleagues in the Emergency Department to offer encouragement, and often blessed newborns and their families as they prepared to leave the hospital.

Through her music and ministry, Sister Marie Theresa created moments of peace, healing, and connection for countless people. Her willingness to share her gifts was not simply a talent but a calling that touched lives across generations.
