My why! Melanie Bolotta shares her passion for care

 

Melanie Bolotta, RT, a diagnostic imaging coordinator and clinical instructor, shares why she chose to work for Trinity Health Oakland two years ago, and how it fuels her passion to care for others.

“I became an X-ray technician after my mother was diagnosed with brain cancer,” said Melanie. “I realized without medical imaging we would not have found out what was wrong with my mother in time. I considered a nursing career, but decided on X-ray because I wanted to be a part of the diagnosis process, which I feel is the most important part.” 

The role of a diagnostic imaging coordinator

Melanie came to Trinity Health Oakland with 15 years of experience. Her role is expansive — she ensures her team learns correct protocols; completes administrative and management tasks; maintains operational X-ray equipment; and, most importantly, she makes sure every patient receives compassionate and safe care. 

“I work with radiologists to create materials to educate the Radiology Team,” said Melanie. “I am also part of the Radiation Safety Committee, Barium State Team, Trauma Operations Committee, Student Advisory Boards, and Mott Pediatric Protocol Team. I spent time at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital to learn how to do pediatric gastrointestinal and orthopedic imaging.”

Trinity Health Michigan and University of Michigan Health have a unique collaboration that has brought advanced pediatric specialty care to Trinity Health Oakland hospital and the communities it serves in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties.

Maintaining work life balance

When Melanie is away from work, she is busy going to her daughter's volleyball games and having special dinners with her son. When the family isn’t traveling, they enjoy watching the antics of their two cats and a new dog. 

It’s easy for Melanie to advocate for her patients and colleagues, alike. She shares the same value system as Trinity Health Oakland — always providing safe care with reverence. 

“The mission statement here helps me provide great patient care in a manner that makes me feel like I'm getting backed by Trinity Health Oakland,” said Melanie.
