Physician Assistant - Hospital Medicine Post-Graduate Fellowship Program
Mission Statement
The mission of our Hospital Medicine Post-Graduate Fellowship is to provide early career Physician Assistant with the advanced clinical knowledge, hands on experience, and critical thinking skills necessary to provide high quality, compassionate care to diverse and complex patient populations in the hospital setting. Through comprehensive training, mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration, we aim to develop confident, competent providers prepared to excel in inpatient medicine.
Program Description
Trinity Health IHA Hospital Medicine offers a 12 month post graduate fellowship for Physician Assistants interested in Hospital Medicine specialty. This program is accomplished through a system wide involvement at our Trinity Health campuses in Ann Arbor Michigan and Livonia Michigan. This program will expand upon the basic training of PAs in the diagnosis and management of conditions in the acute care setting. Our goal is to train highly qualified PAs through a combination of diverse didactic instruction and advanced clinical education in the hospital setting to provide quality care to our patients.
The program will accept 1-2 NCCPA accredited PAs per year. The academic calendar will run for a total of 12 months, January-December.

Admission Criteria:
- Anticipated graduation from an ARC-PA accredited PA program by August and be able to provide diploma and transcripts.
- NCCPA Board completion by the first week of September.
Application Requirements:
- CV including cover letter, clinical rotations, prior employment, publications, volunteer, awards, accomplishments
- Graduated from an ARC-PA accredited PA program and be able to provide a copy of diploma and transcripts
- 3 Letters of Recommendation: one from PA program director, one from Internal Medicine preceptor (MD/DO/PA/NP), one from any clinical rotation preceptor (MD/DO/PA/NP)
- NCCPA Board completion by the first week of September.
- Valid Michigan PA license, DEA license, and Michigan Controlled Substance License by mid September
- AHA BLS/ACLS Certification
The candidate is required to maintain all licensing and certifications throughout the PA Fellowship program.
Applicant review for admission will include education, prior experience, personal statements, references, and interview.
Program Goals
The PA Fellow will develop:
- Comprehensive knowledge to elicit a focus history, physical exam, develop differential diagnoses, order and interpret diagnostic testing, and implement evidence-based management for acute illnesses in inpatient internal medicine
- Skills to manage the acute decompensated patients in rapid response settings
- Interdisciplinary collaboration skills working with multidisciplinary teams including sub specialties, pharmacy, nursing, and social services to provide optimal holistic care for patients and provide family support
- Healthcare system understanding with cost-effective approaches, medical ethics, care in diverse populations, and leadership
