Curriculum
Physician Assistant Hospital Medicine Fellowship
This fellowship will prepare the PA with enhanced professional practice, knowledge, and assist in developing the skill set needed to care for a wide variety of hospitalized patients. It will include regular didactic instruction and focus on 6 months of core Hospital Medicine rotations and 6 months of inpatient specialty rotations.
The curriculum is a combination of SHM Core Competencies and the NCCPA Content Blueprint for the Hospital Medicine CAQ Examination.
The PA Fellow will complete the AAPA/SHM Hospital medicine bootcamp prior to the start of the program (payment reimbursed) and will undergo written evaluation at the start of the fellowship.
In addition to Hospital Medicine, the PA Fellow will rotate in the following specialties (in 2-4 week blocks), based on availability:
- Critical Care
- Infectious Disease
- Neurology
- Nephrology
- Pulmonology
- Cardiology
- Gastroenterology
- Palliative Care
- Hematology/Oncology
Anticipated Clinical Schedule:
- Month 1-2: Hospital Medicine
- Month 3: Critical Care
- Month 4: Specialty Rotation
- Month 5: Hospital Medicine
- Month 6: Specialty Rotation
- Month 7: Hospital Medicine
- Month 8: Specialty Rotation
- Month 9: Hospital Medicine
- Month 10: Specialty Rotation
- Month 11-12: Hospital Medicine
PA Fellows will be under the supervision of licensed/accredited PAs, NPs, physicians and other health care professionals at all times. This process shall be in accordance with Michigan state law and national regulations with regard to physician assistant practice.
Evaluation Process
PA Fellows will be routinely evaluated with written evaluation, demonstration of skill sets, and by preceptors.
Tuition | Fees | Stipend | Benefits
There are no tuition or fees for the PA Fellowship. The PA fellow receives an annual salary, comprehensive benefit package, and CME allowance. Malpractice insurance will be provided. The PA Fellow will be responsible for housing and living expenses.
