Welcome from the Program Directors

Welcome to the Trinity Health Oakland/Wayne State University School of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency program. We are a community-based hospital program with a strong academic focus located in Oakland County, Michigan. Our long-standing residency program in Internal Medicine aims to provide residents with a supportive, robust educational environment that promotes progressive achievement of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to practice as Board Certified Internal Medicine physicians and successful fellowship applicants. Our program enrolls a diverse representation of residents from all over the world and provides a uniquely rich educational environment in a suburban hospital that is committed to serving those who are poor.

Program Mission Statement

Our Program's focus is our community; we strive to provide compassionate, evidence-based high-quality care that is safe and innovative, with a commitment to serve the poor and vulnerable, honoring the dignity of every person and improve community health by identifying disparities and barriers to care.

At the end of the training, our residents will be resilient and successful as primary care general internists, hospitalists, and fellowship track physicians.

Program Aims

The aims of the Internal Medicine Residency at Trinity Health Oakland are to train residents who are:

  1. Competent (able to manage complex patients in Floors, ICU and Clinic);
  2. Board-certified (pass the ABIM exam);
  3. Scholarly (ability to identify unique cases and write case reports, perform data analysis based and quality improvement research and write manuscripts and publish) and;
  4. Successful (able to run an outpatient primary care practice, work as a hospitalist or train as a subspecialty fellow) physicians.
