I chose Trinity Health Muskegon because of its strong commitment to patient-centered care, its supportive environment for learning, and the opportunity to work with a diverse and underserved patient population. On interview day, I saw a genuine sense of camaraderie among the residents, which made me feel this would be a place where I could grow both personally and professionally.

Muskegon is also a beautiful place to live, with access to nature and family-friendly activities.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my husband and daughter, taking long walks, traveling and learning about different cultures.

I chose Internal Medicine because it aligns with my path in my becoming a Cardiologist. At Muskegon, Michigan is a state which is close to home for myself. Trinity Health Muskegon's brand-new hospital facility offers a diverse patient population and a well established training ground for resident physicians.

I believe Trinity health Muskegon's Internal Medicine program will hone and strengthen my skills in my career as a physician.

I chose this program and location for my training because the internal medicine program really appealed to me, especially after visiting the hospital for the second look. The staff and residents seemed genuinely happy, and I loved the hospital environment and the patient population Muskegon serves. Additionally, the location is convenient as my family lives close by.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

I have always wanted to work closer to where my family lives. As such, West Michigan was where I had hoped to match. Trinity Health Michigan impressed me with their dedication to holistically treating their patients as well as ensuring thorough training for their residents. I felt that at Trinity Health Michigan, I would have the best opportunities for success. I really enjoyed meeting the residents, the attending physicians, and the program director; they were all so genuinely friendly, not to mention brilliant.

Lastly, of the programs in West Michigan, I felt the most "at-home" when I visited Trinity Health Michigan.

Hobbies/interests outside of work

I have been producing my own music for nearly a decade, and I play the bass guitar, electric/acoustic guitar, piano, drums, etc. I have been brewing beer for four years, and as of 2022, I am a member of the American Homebrewer's Association. I am a licensed advanced open water diver. Explored a few shipwrecks in the South Caribbean. Went on several spearfishing trips to clear the reefs of the invasive Lionfish.

I am self-taught in Italian (intermediate fluency) and also a recreational soccer player, started learning in 2022. I usually play as center back or left wing. I'm also a 5k runner.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

While interviewing over zoom made getting a “feel” for programs difficult, the people I met during my time with Trinity Health Michigan seemed genuinely happy to be working together, and were all excited to share their experiences and advice with newly-minted medical graduates. Additionally, the community aspect, and close-knit resident classes appealed to me for a more collaborative professional environment.

Finally, the appeal of a hands-on learning approach was a high priority for me, and both the residents and the preceptors I spoke with highlighted this as a strength of the Trinity program.

Hobbies/interests outside of work

I love cooking, especially trying new recipes. My wife and I also take every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors – hiking, camping, cycling, etc. When I have the free time, I’m also apt to enjoy reading, playing music (though boy am I out of practice) video games and (mostly disc-based) sports!

My favorite hobby is watching and learning the world of Formula 1 with my wife. I love to spend time on the ski slopes during winter and swim during the summer. I completed an audition here and I appreciated the sense of support and community that there is among the residents and faculty. I chose this program because during my interview and when I visited, I could sense how close the residents were with each other, and how comfortable they felt with the attendings. I enjoyed the multidisciplinary rounds when I visited the hospital.

I also toured the area a little bit during my visit, and I fell in love with the sunset at the beach and the many lighthouses.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

During my interview, it was obvious that there was a strong sense of camaraderie among the residents, attendings and staff. Everyone was welcoming and showed a genuine interest in getting to know me as an individual which let me know that the program would personally invest in me.

Also, even though this is a smaller program and hospital, it has a larger, almost academic feel to it. With the patient acuity and ability for early exposure to procedures and challenging cases, I know that I’ll be well prepared to practice confidently anywhere.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, fishing, cooking, spending time with family and friends, traveling, trying new foods and restaurants (I’m a foodie), eating as much ice cream as I can and passing out fist bumps to the masses.
