Trinity was my first audition rotation and the first draw to the program was how welcoming the other residents and attending physicians were. As an Army veteran, I value the connection of a great team and I felt a strong sense of camaraderie, which I loved. Furthermore, my fiancée’s family live in Cedar Springs and we wanted to move back to be close with them.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

During my time off I love to collect and build Lego, along with playing golf. I have always had a fascination for the outdoors where I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, and camping with my fiancée Brooke and our two dogs, Sammie and Stryker. Recently, I added a new hobby and love the process of making espresso. I also enjoy reading fantasy and mystery thriller novels.

I chose Trinity Health Grand Rapids because of its deep commitment to addressing healthcare disparities, particularly in areas like the Heartside Health district, where many patients rely on Medicare, Medicaid, or the 340B Drug Pricing Program. This mission to deliver compassionate, high-quality care to all, regardless of financial circumstance, closely reflects my own values as a physician. I aim to train in a program where I could actively contribute to improving healthcare access and outcomes for underserved communities. I believe that caring for patients facing socioeconomic and health-related challenges will not only make me a more empathetic provider but also enhance my clinical skills in managing complex cases.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

Outside of medicine, I enjoy ice skating, going on morning runs, and spending time with my family.

One of the main reasons I was drawn to this program is the strong sense of community among the residents. Why I chose this program/location for my training

I chose Trinity Health Grand Rapids because it offers outstanding clinical training in a supportive environment, one that aligns with both my personal and professional goals. It reminded me of the tight-knit community I experienced during my first two years of medical training in the UK.

Additionally, with my friends and family just a few hours away in Canada, I’ll be able to maintain strong connections with my support system. After a second look at the program and the city of Grand Rapids, I felt confident that this is a place where I can thrive and grow into an excellent physician.

Hobbies/interests outside of work

I enjoy playing sports and like to attend local volleyball and badminton pick-up games as well as go to the gym. I recently began playing golf and pickleball. I also love travelling and collecting snow globes from the places I visit. In my downtime, I enjoy painting, building Lego sets and cooking.

I had the opportunity to work and learn in multiple Trinity Health locations throughout southeast Michigan prior to starting as well as during medical school. It was the clear choice to return to Trinity Health for the next step of my professional career.

From the faculty to the residents, everyone was extremely welcoming and engaging during my interview. The strong camaraderie among many residents who were present at the virtual social gathering was evident, even though I was not physically present. As a result, I was able to see that this program is like a family.

Additionally, listening to other residents express how happy they are being a part of this program and having no regrets matching here, reassured me that I would receive the support I need in my training and learning throughout my time here. I’m truly grateful to be here.

After years of traveling for medical school, it’s a true blessing to be back in Michigan and practicing as close to home as possible.

During medical school, I completed a rotation in Grand Rapids and absolutely loved the city and its population. I have always wanted to train and practice in a community setting as well. Trinity Health Grand Rapids instantly felt like home, and a big part of that was my conversation with Dr. Hull, our program director. Whether I wanted to pursue a particular fellowship or explore different avenues within internal medicine, I knew that the program would provide me with mentorship, guidance, resources, and encouragement. It's reassuring to know that I have such a strong support system backing me as I navigate my medical journey.

The sense of camaraderie that I noticed between residents also put me at ease and I am so excited for the friendships that I will make. Further, with my family just a few hours away in Canada, I couldn't imagine a better place to spend the next three years.

I chose this program because talking to the faculty was so comfortable. Dr Hull and I grew up around the same area so it was a great conversation about our hometowns. After talking to the current residents, it seemed like such a supportive place to work. I really saw myself working there.

The Grand Rapids area has always been so fun for me to visit, and will be a wonderful place to see my son grow up while I complete my training.

I am passionate about mountain biking and enjoy riding at local trails that I volunteer to maintain. One of my favorite activities is to travel to other areas and explore new trails with my friends. When I want to challenge myself I compete in race events and for fun I join social rides to further engage in the mountain biking community. At home I spend my free time in the garage working on DIY projects, maintaining my bikes, and detailing cars. I chose Mercy Health because of the program's commitment to patient care; residents' education and well-being; and excellent research. The residents and faculty were friendly throughout my interview and the Program Director was very personable. Grand Rapids is a rapidly growing city with a vibrant population.
