Meet Trinity Health EMS
October 8, 2026
Emergency medical services (EMS) professionals are much more than just "first responders" in a medical emergency. They are an integral part of the communities they serve.
At Trinity Health, our EMS teams in Muskegon and Kent Counties live, work and raise families in these communities. They take pride in bringing the highest standards of emergency medical care to those in need, treating every patient as if they are family.
“I’ve been a paramedic for 35 years and have never worked with crews like this,” said Chad Crook, MBA, BS, EMT-P Operations Director, Trinity Health EMS. “They are professional, sharp, intuitive, and give their very best every time they respond to a call.”

Chad continues, “It’s really a gift to my crew to be able to see results like Tom and Diane Keenan’s, to know how they made a difference and played a role in saving lives.”
Our innovative coverage system and highly trained crews are dedicated to giving their communities the very best emergency care today, and for years to come.
Right Care. Right Place. Right Time.
When it matters most, our team is there. So how do they do it?
“We have an innovative coverage system and model of care that allows us to deploy the right resources for every call, every time,” said James Convey, a paramedic with Trinity Health EMS – Muskegon. “This includes the ability to provide advanced life support by sending a paramedic to augment the basic life support ambulance team of two emergency medical technicians for all critical, life-threatening calls like trauma, heart attack and stroke.”
In fact, Trinity Health EMS is the only service in West Michigan with these paramedic ‘fly cars’ always staffed and available.

By the Numbers
- 25 Basic Life Support ambulances
- 45 Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) with 120 hours of coursework plus practical training
- 4 Paramedic fly cars for Advanced Life Support
- 37 Paramedics with advanced training of 1,200 to 1,800 hours of advanced medical training including practical experience
CARES Registry (Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival)
The numbers also attest to our Muskegon EMS team’s clinical expertise with cardiac events, specifically.
Trinity Health EMS submits cardiac arrest data to the CARES Registry, a national quality improvement database that tracks out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients from the moment of the 911 call through hospital discharge.
The registry was created to help EMS agencies, first responders, dispatch centers, and hospitals measure outcomes and identify opportunities to improve survival from cardiac arrest. This process also allows communities to evaluate the entire Chain of Survival, from dispatch to hospital discharge.
- Trinity Health EMS - Muskegon demonstrated slightly better overall survival than the Kent County aggregate (12.0% vs 10.8%) and appears to have stronger return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) performance despite caring for a more challenging patient population with less favorable cardiac arrest characteristics.
“Clinically, our people are top notch because of the EMT and paramedic training and education programs we run,” said Daniel Young, Field Supervisor, Critical Care Paramedic, Trinity Health EMS. “Plus, we clinically review all our calls, hold a debrief with the team, and discuss opportunities for improvement.”
Above and Beyond
In addition to emergency response and care, our teams provide non-emergency medical transportation and transfer services, taking Trinity Health Muskegon and Grand Rapids acute care and critical care patients to doctor office visits, therapy appointments, nursing homes, hospice care and more.

“Very often, these patients have special requests – like stopping at McDonalds for ice cream, or at the beach to take in some sun and fresh air," said James. "It’s a privilege and an honor to accommodate them whenever we can.”
