Venous Duplex

Trinity Health Michigan's expert physicians perform venous duplex to take a closer look inside of the extremities to check for vein narrowing or blockage.

What is Venous Duplex of Extremities?

Venous duplex of extremities is a non-invasive, ultrasound (sound waves) test to determine if there are any insufficiencies or blockage (DVT) in the veins of a patient's upper or lower extremities.

Your lower extremities (legs and ankles) could be experiencing symptoms, such as swelling or pain in legs or excessive varicose veins. Your upper extremities (neck, shoulder, arms and wrist) could also be checked for clotting. For some procedures, a blood pressure cuff is used in addition to ultrasound.

You may need this test if you're experiencing any of the following:

  • Excessive varicose veins
  • Pain in legs
  • Shortness of breath
  • Suspected blood clots
  • Swelling in legs due to insufficiencies
