I recently completed my residency in internal medicine nearby at Metro Health. I'm excited to continue my training here in the Grand Rapids area alongside my wife while she finishes the final year of her pediatric residency in Lansing.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

Outside of work, I enjoy exercise, athletics, movies, piano and motorcycles.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

I chose geriatrics because geriatricians are uniquely positioned to "see the forest for the trees", in that they view an elderly patient's medical and psycho-social problems in the broader context of quality of life and preservation of function. As such, they can advocate for and assist their patients in navigating the whole gamut of levels of care, guided by the patient's own goals and values.

The well-established and clinically focused Geriatrics fellowship program at Mercy Health Saint Mary's has everything I was looking for in a program: experienced and incredibly supportive faculty, a wide variety of training locations, excellent didactics and great opportunities to collaborate with other fellows and geriatricians from around the state.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

Video games, reading, taking road trips and exploring Michigan.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

I completed my Family Medicine Residency training at GRMEP. I was very impressed with the program, and after being exposed to the Geriatrics team, I decided to continue my training in Grand Rapids. My wife and I couples matched for residency. After growing up in dense metro areas, Grand Rapids was the perfect combination of big city amenities and small town feel. On top of this, we immediately got along with our fellow GRMEP members and faculty. During our interviews here we immediately picked up on the positive work culture and wonderful people that make up GRMEP faculty and administration.

Music composition, guitar, video games, horror movies, tabletop games, dancing, family.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

My specialty (family medicine) allows for certification of added qualification in geriatrics. At the same time, after practicing medicine in an international setting for 25 years, I need to be updated in the latest healthcare interventions in developed countries. Being from West Michigan, the Grand Rapids program was a natural choice for me.
