Program Mission

The colon and rectal surgery residency program's mission is to provide each resident (fellow) with well-rounded academic and clinical training that prepares the resident to independently deliver compassionate and specialized evidence-based care in any type of academic or community institution.

Program Aims

  1. The resident will develop clinical expertise in the procedural and medical management of diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus, based on the ACGME core competencies. Progressive independence will be developed through continuous formative feedback and measured by Milestone-based evaluations. Residents are actively engaged in department quality improvement and research efforts.
  2. Quality improvement and research opportunities are mandatory and mentored.
  3. Resident education using several didactic and other formats, research skills from the conception of the research question and design to podium presentations skills and manuscript submission are priorities.
  4. Patients will be genuinely fond of the resident and feel so strongly about the quality of resident care rendered that they would recommend family and friends.
  5. Our residents will be well trained in the critical appraisal of current literature and aspire to contribute on a lifelong basis.
