Keauna Snyder, RN, shares why she chose to work for Trinity Health Muskegon three years ago, and how it fuels her passion to care for others. Keauna holds DAISY Award nomination.

“I love getting to be a part of healing the community I grew up in,” said Keauna. “I am grateful to have a career doing what I love, near home, and the work/life balance nursing gives me. I get to solve puzzles, heal patients, and learn something new every day. I also enjoy being a part of the team that trains new nurses to deliver the top-notch care that patients have come to anticipate at our facility.”

Keauna began her career at Trinity Health Muskegon as an LPN extern, she now works as a registered nurse in the Emergency Department (ED). She also serves as a preceptor (teacher) for other nurses and she is a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE). Keauna works the night shift, giving her freedom during the day.

Working in the ED and specializing in sexual assault can be extremely intense and requires the utmost compassionate care. Keauna can provide these things to her patients because she practices self-care. When outside of work, she rejuvenates by training in jiujitsu a few days a week; spending time with family and friends; and taking walks with her dog.

Keauna works the night shift which offers her freedom to be with her family.

“The night shift is great because I never have to take time off to go to my son’s school events or field trips,” said Keauna. “The culture at the hospital feels different on the night shift. We have less readily-available resources, so you quickly gain confidence and independence as a nurse, and you learn to be a great teammate.

“The amazing bonds with your teammates reflects in the care we deliver. The night shift in the ER exhibits teamwork better than any area of the hospital I've ever seen!”

Keauna enjoys the choices and support Trinity Health Muskegon gives her as she continues to develop her career. “Trinity allows room for growth,” said Keauna. “They encourage you to stay educated, up-to-date, and to grow in the areas that excite you. For me, that was the specialized training to become a SANE and the desire to float between the ED and ICU (intensive care unit).”

Working at Trinity Health Muskegon — recently named among Best Hospitals in America by U.S. News & World Report — fulfills Keauna’s passion for providing the very best compassionate care for her patients.

“I would recommend nurses join the Trinity Health Muskegon team, specifically on nights, to refine your nursing skills, spread your wings, and be a part of an amazing team,” said Keauna.
