LIVONIA, Mich. (Jan. 21, 2026) – Trinity Health Livonia announced the expansion of its cardiovascular services to include advanced left-sided cardiac ablation procedures. This new capability brings high-quality heart care closer to home for patients and families living in Livonia and surrounding communities.

Left-sided cardiac ablation treats atrial fibrillation (AFib), an irregular and often rapid heart rhythm that can lead to serious complications if left untreated. Many AFib patients require ablation on the left side or both sides of the heart, which previously meant traveling to larger hospitals, often at great distances, placing additional costs and stress on patients and their families.

Trintiy Health Livonia has performed right-sided cardiac ablation since 2016. Left-sided ablation is more complicated than right-sided because physicians must cross a wall inside the heart to reach the left atrium, involving specialized techniques, tools and imaging. The left atrium is larger and more complex, so the procedure requires advanced 3-D mapping, additional time, and often general anesthesia. It also demands additional surgical and critical care resources to manage potential complications, making it a service traditionally available only at larger, urban medical centers.

“I always say our hospital is ‘just the right size’ because we have the benefits and resources of being part of a large national health system like Trinity Health while still offering the familiarity and comfort of a community hospital,” said Matthew Griffin, M.D., chief medical officer and president of Trinity Health Livonia. “I am proud of our heart team for expanding these critical services to meet the needs of the communities we serve. From our nurses to our doctors, to all our techs and support staff, you will not find a more skilled and dedicated group committed to delivering hope and healing to patients.”

Michigan Heart, the cardiology group within Trinity Health Livonia, has been a nationally recognized leader in comprehensive cardiovascular care for more than 50 years. Headquartered on the campus of Trinity Health Ann Arbor, with locations spread across southeast Michigan, Michigan Heart combines advanced technology with expert care to keep treatment accessible and close to home for patients and their families. Led by a team of cardiologists covering all subspecialties of cardiovascular medicine, Michigan Heart continues to set the standard for excellence, delivering outstanding outcomes and driving innovation to improve the lives of patients with heart disease.

“The launch of left-sided ablation procedures at our hospital is a major leap forward,” said Andrew Hughey, M.D., medical director of Cardiac Electrophysiology at Trinity Health Livonia. “It allows patients to receive advanced atrial fibrillation care closer to home while maintaining the same safety standards, technology, and clinical expertise available at our larger Trinity Health sister hospitals. This expansion reflects our commitment to improving access, quality, and outcomes for patients living with heart rhythm disorders.”
