DETROIT, Mich. (Sept. 24, 2025) – The SAY Detroit Family Health Clinic, with the support of Trinity Health Michigan, announced its transition to a new care facility, located at 1355 Oakman Blvd., Detroit, MI. The relocation of the community health clinic marks a significant milestone in SAY Detroit’s commitment to providing affordable health care to families living in under-resourced neighborhoods throughout the cities of Detroit, Highland Park, and Hamtramck. The clinic also offers free services for uninsured or underinsured patients who qualify.
The former facility had five exam rooms, while the new facility offers ten, in addition to three new treatment rooms for dental services, a service that had not previously been offered to SAY Detroit patients. Clinic leaders project that the facility upgrade, which offers ample on-site parking, will increase patient volume by as much as 50%, enhancing access to a wide range of services, including primary care, gynecology, internal medicine, podiatry, physical therapy, dermatology, health coaching, dentistry, and nutrition. Additional services offered include an on-site pharmacy, a behavioral medicine clinic, and two outreach programs: “First Year,” for pregnant and new moms of infants, and “Wellness Wednesdays,” a senior-focused monthly support group for women.
“Today’s announcement represents more than just a building upgrade; it signifies us planting our flag in the city and letting Detroiters know that we intend to be here for a very long time,” said Richard Kelley, executive director of SAY Detroit. “Together, with Trinity Health, we will continue to be a transforming, healing presence in our community, ensuring that the most vulnerable receive high-quality, compassionate care, when they need it.”
SAY Detroit was founded in 2006 by best-selling author and philanthropist Mitch Albom. The nonprofit provides pathways to success to those in need and has grown to include a housing program, an after-school youth development center, and other services. The SAY Clinic first opened in 2008 in Highland Park in collaboration with Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, providing care to uninsured and underinsured patients regardless of their ability to pay.
As part of its expanding footprint in Detroit, Trinity Health has forged management partnerships with many local health clinics, including SAY Detroit in 2019. In addition to its ongoing financial support, Trinity Health brings extensive experience and expertise in overseeing the clinic’s day-to-day operations.
With approximately 12,000 covered lives and 22,840 patient visits in 2024, Trinity Health Detroit offers 10 specialty services and 15 active community-based initiatives and programs in the city. In 2024, this amounted to 19,480 primary care visits, 17,868 prescriptions filled, and 1,722 behavioral health visits, including 781 Detroit Public School students served.
“As a not-for-profit Catholic health care system, we are guided by core values of Reverence and a Commitment to Those Experiencing Poverty, which call on us to honor the sacredness and dignity of every person, and to stand with and serve those who are experiencing poverty, especially those most vulnerable,” said Tawana Nettles-Robinson, executive director of Trinity Health Detroit and manager of SAY Detroit. “As one of Michigan’s most trusted health care leaders, Trinity Health sees it as a moral obligation to bring resources and health care expertise to those in need of care.”
