Dr. Skallerup attended medical school at the University of Illinois. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Edward G. Hines Hospital in Hines, Illinois. He worked in private practice at Cardiovascular Associates of Harlingen, Texas before completing his fellowship in cardiology at Loyola University Medical Center. Dr. Skallerup is also a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Doctor Skallerup listened to the concerns that my wife and I had over a diagnosis of atrial fibrillation based upon my echocardiogram. This diagnosis didn't make sense to us, given that several consecutive interrogations of my pacemaker did not detect any instances of A-fib. Doctor Skallerup looked at the echocardiogram while we were in the office, showed it to us, and concluded that there was no evidence of A-fib. He added his conclusions to the radiology report, and went the extra mile to clear up the issue which we very much appreciated. us
