CHELSEA, March 14, 2022 — For the fifth consecutive year, St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea has earned an Excellence Award from the Economic Alliance for Michigan (EAM) for its commitment to delivering safe, high quality and affordable health care.

“Even in the midst of a global pandemic, our health care workers have consistently exceeded all expectations to meet the needs of our patients,” said Nancy Graebner-Sundling, president of St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea. “I am so proud of our team, and I cannot thank them enough for all the hard work and dedication they put in every single day. Winning this award for the fifth year in a row is truly an honor and privilege.”

To be considered for the award, hospitals must have participated in the 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The survey is created by The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit that aims to take steps forward in the safety, quality and affordability of health care in the United States through transparency.

Hospitals that receive the Excellence Award also earned all “A’s” with Hospital Safety Grade in four straight terms (Spring 2020, Fall 2020, Spring 2021 and Fall 2021).

St. Joe’s Chelsea is one of 11 hospitals in the state of Michigan to earn the Excellence Award this year.

Other Saint Joseph Mercy Health System hospitals have also won the Excellence Award in recent years, including St. Mary Mercy Livonia (2016) and St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (2019, 2020).
