Endocrine Surgery
Endocrine surgeons treat diseases that affect the endocrine system, typically focusing on the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands. You may be referred to an Endocrine Surgeon for conditions like tumors, nodules, goiters, hyperparathyroidism, cancer, Cushing's syndrome and Grave's disease.
Depending on your endocrine disorder, your surgeon may perform minimally invasive surgery like, laparoscopic or robotic surgery or open surgery.
Endocrine surgeons focus on three main glands of the endocrine system:
Thyroid Gland
- Butterfly shaped gland located at the front of the neck
- Controls metabolism
- Affects body temperature, energy and oxygen
Parathyroid Glands
- Group of four small glands located behind the thyroid gland
- Controls calcium and phosphorous levels
Adrenal Glands
- Small, triangle-shaped glands located on top of the kidneys
- Produce hormones like, cortisol, aldosterone and adrenaline
- Regulate stress, metabolism and blood pressure
