Inside the First 100 Days at Trinity Health Livingston Hospital in Brighton

It has been 100 days since we opened the doors to the new Trinity Health Livingston hospital in Brighton, and one thing is clear: the need for health care services in Livingston County continues to grow.

For nearly 70 years, our legacy hospital in Howell provided high-quality care to the community. However, increasing demand made it clear that we needed a modern facility capable of serving both today's needs and future growth. Since 2012, more than 39,000 additional people have sought care at Trinity Health Livingston, and inpatient hospitalizations are projected to continue increasing in the years ahead.

Built for the Future

The new Brighton hospital was designed with that future in mind. At 174,000 square feet, the four-story facility features 56 acuity adaptable inpatient beds and is connected directly to the existing Brighton Medical Center, creating a more convenient experience for patients seeking care in one location.

What we've learned during these first 100 days is that community demand has exceeded even our expectations. Volumes in both the hospital and Emergency Department have surpassed original projections. While that increased demand has at times resulted in longer wait times for some patients, it also reinforces the importance of the investments we are making to expand access to care.

Expanding to Meet Community Needs

To meet that demand, we are moving forward aggressively with plans to add 24 additional inpatient beds by next spring and recruit more colleagues to support continued growth. These additions will help improve patient flow, increase capacity, and reduce wait times for patients.

Patients and visitors may notice ongoing construction continues in portions of the campus, particularly in the lobby area. This work remains part of the broader project and reflects our investment in creating a welcoming, convenient experience for patients and families.

Bringing Advanced Care Closer to Home

Our investments extend far beyond the building itself. The new hospital has expanded access to advanced technology and services that allow more patients to receive care close to home. The campus features eight modern operating rooms, including two robotic surgical suites, along with advanced imaging capabilities such as a cardiac-capable CT scanner, two MRI machines and on-site radiologists. These resources help improve efficiency, support better outcomes and enhance the overall patient experience.

Comprehensive Specialty Services

The hospital's capabilities extend across a wide range of specialties, including oncology, orthopedics, gynecology, urology, general surgery and bariatrics. By bringing these services together on a single campus, patients are benefiting from a more convenient and coordinated care experience while accessing the advanced treatment options they need close to home.

A Continued Commitment to Quality

While the new hospital is an important milestone, our commitment remains the same: providing high-quality care to the communities we serve. Trinity Health Livingston has earned eight consecutive "A" grades from The Leapfrog Group for hospital safety, along with recognition from Healthgrades and a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
