CyberKnife Treatment at Trinity Health

Sometimes traditional radiation therapy or surgery aren’t options for cancer treatment. CyberKnife radiosurgery offers hope for healing. This nonsurgical radiation treatment delivers high doses of radiation that destroy cancer cells.

CyberKnife treatments are tailored to each individual patient. Taking into account their unique body anatomy and breathing patterns to optimize radiation delivery to only the cells that need it.

What is CyberKnife Treatment?

CyberKnife delivers multiple beams of radiation from different angles. The beams come together at the location of the cancer, creating targeted energy that prevents it from growing and spreading. There are no incisions and patients rarely experience discomfort. CyberKnife is the only radiation delivery system that features a linear accelerator directly mounted on a robot to deliver the high-energy x-rays or photons used in radiation therapy.

The robot moves and bends around the patient to deliver radiation doses from potentially thousands of unique beam angles, significantly expanding the possible positions to concentrate radiation to the tumor while minimizing doses to the surrounding healthy tissue.

Benefits of CyberKnife Treatment

  • Accurate and Precise: Enables clinicians to treat tumors confidently and safely with minimal harm to surrounding healthy tissue.
  • Fast: Treatment will typically occur over one to five treatment sessions, as determined by the patient’s physician, and sessions typically range from 30-90 minutes.
  • Noninvasive: Provides a pain-free, noninvasive alternative for patients, eliminating the risk of complications and lengthy recovery time associated with traditional surgery.
